Mosque (Masjid)
A place of worship for Muslims. Masjid means the place of prostration. Prostrating is an act of complete surrender to Allah. There are separate areas for men and women so that they don’t distract each other. Prayer mats must be pointed towards the Kaaba in Mecca. The Qiblah is on the wall of the mosque which is always in the direction of Mecca.

Where Muhammad migrated to because of the strong opposition he faced to his preaching in Mecca His migration is known as the Hijrah. Muhammed is buried in Medina and the first Mosque was built there.

Muslims believe Muhammad made his “night visit” (also known as miraj) to this holy city The miraj refers to the night Muhammad was taken by the angel Gabriel from Mecca to the temple mount in Jerusalem. There, on what is presently known as the site of the Dome of the Rock, Muhammad reportedly visited with Abraham, Moses, and Jesus and ascended to heaven to be greeted by Allah. When he returned to earth, Muhammad then began his preaching
